Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Heartbreak Kid”
The Heartbreak Kid is a 1972 American comedy-drama film directed by Elaine May and starring Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, and Eddie Albert.
The film follows the story of Lenny Cantrow (Charles Grodin), a successful, middle-aged New York City businessman who is looking for a change in his life. He meets a beautiful woman, Lila (Cybill Shepherd), and they quickly fall in love and get married.
However, soon after they are married, Lenny begins to realize that his new wife is not quite the perfect match he thought she was. She is demanding, controlling, and possessive. Lenny begins to feel trapped in his marriage and starts to look for ways to escape.
He meets a young woman, Kelly (Jeannie Berlin), on a business trip and they soon become close. Lenny begins to feel a connection with Kelly that he never felt with Lila, and he starts to think that maybe he has found the perfect woman for him.
However, things take a turn for the worse when Lenny finds out that Kelly is actually Lila’s daughter from a previous marriage. Lenny is torn between his feelings for Kelly and his commitment to Lila.
The film follows Lenny as he struggles to choose between the two women and his own happiness. Will he choose to stay with Lila or will he take a chance on a new life with Kelly?
