Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Green Berets”
The Green Berets is a 1968 action-drama war film directed by John Wayne and Ray Kellogg. The film is based on the 1965 novel by Robin Moore and stars John Wayne, David Janssen, and Jim Hutton.
The film follows the story of Colonel Mike Kirby (John Wayne), a veteran of the Korean War, who is chosen to lead a special mission to Vietnam. His mission is to train a team of Green Berets to fight the North Vietnamese, and to help the South Vietnamese forces in their fight against the communist forces.
Kirby’s team consists of his second-in-command Sergeant Muldoon (David Janssen), a tough and experienced soldier; Sergeant Petersen (Jim Hutton), a young and naive soldier; Sergeant Olsen (Aldo Ray), an experienced but aging soldier; and Sergeant O’Reilly (George Takei), a Japanese-American soldier.
Kirby and his team travel to Vietnam and begin their mission. At first, the team is met with hostility from the villagers and the South Vietnamese forces, but eventually they are accepted and begin to form a bond with the locals.
Kirby and his team then begin training the South Vietnamese forces and teaching them the tactics of guerrilla warfare. As the team’s mission progresses, they come under attack from the North Vietnamese forces and the Viet Cong.
