Synopsis/Plot
The Greatest Story Ever Told is an epic 1965 drama directed by George Stevens, based on the novel by Fulton Oursler. It tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ, from his humble beginnings in Nazareth to his crucifixion and resurrection. The film stars Max von Sydow as Jesus, and an all-star cast of Hollywood actors in supporting roles, including Charlton Heston, Dorothy McGuire, Sidney Poitier, Telly Savalas, and John Wayne.
The film follows the life of Jesus from his birth to his death and resurrection. It begins with the Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel tells Mary of her impending pregnancy. We then follow Jesus’ childhood, as he grows up in Nazareth, learning about his divine mission from his father Joseph. We then see Jesus’ ministry, as he travels around the region, preaching and healing the sick. We witness his many miracles, such as the feeding of the five thousand, and his calming of the storm.
The film also follows Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, where he is betrayed by Judas and arrested. We see Jesus’ trial before Pontius Pilate, and his subsequent crucifixion. Finally, the film culminates in
