Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Great White Hype”
The Great White Hype is a 1996 American sports comedy film starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jeff Goldblum, Jon Lovitz, Damon Wayans, Jamie Foxx, and Peter Berg.
The film follows the story of boxing promoter Rev. Fred Sultan (Jackson) who is looking to revive the sport of boxing by creating a match between a white boxer and a black boxer. To do this, Sultan enlists the help of a washed-up former champion, Jimmy King (Goldblum).
The match is set up between the white boxer, Tommy “The Bull” Conlon (Berg), and the black boxer, James “The Grim Reaper” Roper (Wayans). The two boxers have very different styles and personalities, and the fight quickly becomes a media sensation.
However, before the fight can take place, Sultan and King must first deal with the various obstacles that stand in their way, from the boxing commission to the mob.
The film culminates in an exciting match between Conlon and Roper, with the outcome of the fight being determined by the audience’s reaction. In the end, the fight is declared a draw, and both boxers walk away with their pride intact.
