Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Great Outdoors”
The Great Outdoors is a 1988 American comedy film directed by Howard Deutch and starring Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, and Annette Bening.
The film follows the story of the Griswold family as they embark on a vacation to a lakeside resort in Wisconsin. The family consists of father, Chet (Dan Aykroyd), mother, Kate (Annette Bening), and two sons, Brad (Chris Young) and Roman (Ilan Mitchell-Smith).
Upon arriving at the resort, the Griswolds are welcomed by the eccentric and boisterous owner, Chet’s brother-in-law, Roman (John Candy). Roman insists on showing the family around the resort and introduces them to the other guests, including a couple of old-timers, a pair of newlyweds, and a group of rowdy college kids.
The Griswolds soon find that Roman’s idea of a fun vacation is much different than their own. Roman’s antics soon start to wear on Chet’s patience, creating tension between the two. Meanwhile, Brad and Roman find themselves bonding over their shared love of fishing, and Kate finds herself drawn to the charming college student, Nick (Stephen Tobolowsky).
