Synopsis/Plot
The Great Gatsby is a 2013 romantic drama film based on the 1925 novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and written by Craig Pearce, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the enigmatic Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man living in New York City in the 1920s. Gatsby is obsessed with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, played by Carey Mulligan, whose husband Tom (Joel Edgerton) is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson (Isla Fisher).
The movie follows Gatsby’s attempts to win back Daisy’s love, as well as his struggles with his past and his relationship with Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire),Nick, a newcomer to the area, is drawn into Gatsby’s world and soon finds himself caught up in the lavish parties Gatsby throws at his mansion. At the same time, Nick discovers the truth about Gatsby’s past and his connections to the mysterious Daisy. As Gatsby’s hopes for a reunion with Daisy fade, his obsession with her leads him to make a fatal mistake. In the end, Nick must decide whether to stay loyal to Gatsby or to Daisy, and ultimately, the outcome of the story is a tragic one.
