Synopsis/Plot
The Goldfinch is a 2019 drama film directed by John Crowley, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Donna Tartt. The film stars Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, Jeffrey Wright, and Finn Wolfhard.
The Goldfinch tells the story of Theodore Decker (Elgort), a 13-year-old boy who survives a terrorist bombing at an art museum that kills his mother. In the aftermath of the bombing, Theodore is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend.
As Theodore grows up, he struggles to make sense of his mother’s death and to reconcile his past with his present. He is haunted by the painting of a small goldfinch that he stole from the museum in the aftermath of the bombing.
The film follows Theodore’s journey of self-discovery as he navigates a world of crime, wealth, love, loss, and redemption. Along the way, he must confront the secrets of his past and find the courage to forge his own path in life.
