Synopsis/Plot
The Gauntlet is a 1977 American action thriller film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Clint Eastwood, Pat Hingle, and Sondra Locke. The plot follows a hard-nosed Arizona cop who escorts a witness from Las Vegas to Phoenix to testify against a powerful mob boss. Along the way, they must battle against a relentless onslaught of obstacles and enemies, including corrupt police officers, a biker gang, and the mob boss himself.
The movie begins with Ben Shockley (Eastwood), a Phoenix police detective, being assigned to escort criminal Gus Mally (Hingle) from Las Vegas to Phoenix. Mally is a witness in a case against a powerful mob boss, and Shockley must ensure his safe arrival. On their way, they are attacked by mobsters, bikers, and corrupt police officers. Shockley and Mally must use their wits and courage to survive the onslaught and make it to Phoenix.
The Gauntlet is an action-packed thrill ride that features intense car chases, shoot-outs, and explosions. It is a classic example of the “lone hero against the odds” trope, as Shockley must rely on his own strength and wits to overcome
