Synopsis/Plot
The French Dispatch is a 2020 comedy-drama film written and directed by Wes Anderson. It is set in the fictional French city of Ennui-sur-Blasé in the late 1950s and follows the staff of an American newspaper, the French Dispatch, as they strive to publish a special edition of the newspaper. The story is told through the eyes of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Arthur Howitzer Jr. (Bill Murray), and focuses on the lives of the paper’s three star reporters: the flamboyant Roebuck Wright (Adrien Brody), the idealistic Léon De Lyon (Frances McDormand), and the enigmatic Julien Cadazac (Jeffrey Wright).
The film follows the reporters as they investigate a variety of stories, from a mysterious murder in a small village to a love affair between a local artist and a visiting American student. Along the way, they encounter a colorful cast of characters, from a reclusive artist to a rambunctious group of schoolchildren. As the reporters uncover the truth behind the stories, they find themselves facing off against powerful forces that threaten the paper’s future.
The French Dispatch is a visually stunning film
