Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Fourth Protocol”
The Fourth Protocol is a 1987 British espionage thriller film directed by John Mackenzie and starring Michael Caine and Pierce Brosnan. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth.
The film follows an MI5 agent, John Preston (Michael Caine), who is assigned to investigate a possible Soviet spy. Preston discovers that a Soviet agent, Valeri Petrofsky (Pierce Brosnan), is planning to smuggle a nuclear bomb into the United Kingdom and detonate it in a major city.
Preston is determined to stop Petrofsky and his plan, but is hindered by the fact that he is not authorized to use any of the normal methods to stop him. He must instead rely on his wits and the help of a Soviet defector, Colonel Stok (Jeroen Krabbé).
Preston and Stok must work together to uncover the details of Petrofsky’s plan and stop it in time. Along the way, they must also contend with the machinations of the KGB, as well as a powerful British politician who is determined to keep the plan a secret.
The Fourth Protocol is a thrilling espionage story that pits two men against a powerful enemy in a race against time to save the world from a deadly nuclear attack.
