Synopsis/Plot
The Florida Project is a 2017 American drama film written and directed by Sean Baker. Set in contemporary times, the story follows six-year-old Moonee and her rebellious mother Halley, who live in a budget motel in the shadow of Disney World. The motel is run by Bobby, a kindly but stern manager. Moonee and her friends, Scooty and Jancey, explore the surrounding area, often getting into mischief and causing trouble for Bobby. As the summer progresses, Halley struggles to make ends meet while also trying to keep Moonee safe and out of trouble.
The film is a portrait of the lives of the residents of the motel and the surrounding area. It is filled with vibrant colors and a cast of characters that are both endearing and heartbreaking. The Florida Project is a story about childhood innocence and the struggles of poverty and the importance of family. It is a story of hope and resilience, and a reminder that even in the most difficult of circumstances, beauty and joy can still be found.
