Synopsis/Plot
The Fan is a 1996 psychological thriller directed by Tony Scott, starring Robert De Niro as a deranged sports memorabilia collector and Wesley Snipes as the star baseball player he stalks.
The movie follows Gil Renard (De Niro), an obsessed fan of the San Francisco Giants baseball team. After being fired from his job, Gil becomes increasingly unstable and begins to fixate on star player Bobby Rayburn (Snipes). Gil’s obsession takes a dark turn as he begins to stalk and threaten Bobby and his family, as well as the team’s owner and manager.
The tension between Gil and Bobby builds as Gil attempts to force Bobby to perform better on the field, while Bobby desperately tries to protect himself and his family from Gil’s escalating threats. As Bobby’s career begins to suffer, Gil’s obsession grows stronger, leading to a violent confrontation between the two.
