Synopsis/Plot
The Family Stone is a 2005 romantic comedy-drama directed by Thomas Bezucha. The movie follows the Stone family, a close-knit New England family, as they come together for the Christmas holiday season. The family is made up of Everett and Sybil Stone, their four grown children, and Everett’s brother Kelly.
When Everett and Sybil’s eldest daughter, Meredith, brings her uptight fiancé, Everett’s plans for a quiet holiday season are derailed. Meredith’s brother, Ben, is a struggling musician who still lives at home. Her sister, Amy, is a successful career woman who is recently divorced. Her youngest brother, Thad, is a rebellious teenager.
The family is further thrown off balance when Meredith’s fiancé brings his conservative family to meet the Stones. Everett and Sybil’s liberal values clash with the conservative values of the fiancé’s family, and the two sides are at odds.
The movie follows the Stone family as they try to navigate these cultural differences and come together to celebrate the holidays. Along the way, they must confront their own issues and learn that family is more important than anything else.
