The Eyes of My Mother is a 2016 American horror film written and directed by Nicolas Pesce. It stars Kika Magalhaes as Francisca, a young woman whose life is irrevocably changed after her mother is brutally murdered by a mysterious stranger.
The film follows Francisca as she grows up in rural America, living with her father, a former surgeon, and her mother, a Portuguese immigrant. As a young girl, Francisca is fascinated by her mother’s stories of her homeland and its customs, as well as by her father’s surgical tools.
When a mysterious stranger kills Francisca’s mother, her father is left to raise her alone. As she grows older, Francisca becomes increasingly isolated, and her fascination with her mother’s stories and her father’s tools leads her down a dark path.
The film follows Francisca as she slowly unravels, with her increasingly disturbing behavior leading her to kidnap a young girl and attempt to perform a cruel experiment on her. As her father’s mental state deteriorates, Francisca must confront the darkness within her and decide whether to embrace it or fight against it.
