Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Express”
The Express is a 2008 American biographical sports drama film directed by Gary Fleder and starring Rob Brown as college football hero Ernie Davis. The film follows the story of Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy, and his rise to fame as a football star at Syracuse University.
The film begins with Davis as a high school football star in Elmira, New York. He quickly gains the attention of college scouts and is offered a full scholarship to Syracuse University. As a freshman, Davis quickly makes an impression on the football field and becomes a star player. His team, the Syracuse Orangemen, soon become a national powerhouse.
However, Davis soon discovers the racism he faces in the south as the team travels to play in the Cotton Bowl against the University of Texas. Despite the racism, Davis and his team persevere and win the game, with Davis being named the MVP.
Davis is drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1962 and is set to become the first African-American to play in the NFL. However, he is diagnosed with leukemia and dies shortly after being drafted.
The film follows Davis’ story from his childhood to his death, showcasing his courage and determination in the face of adversity. It is a story of hope and triumph in the face of adversity, and a reminder of the power of sports to bring people together.
