Synopsis/Plot
The Exception is a 2017 British-American romantic drama set in World War II. The film follows a German soldier, Stefan Brandt (Jai Courtney), who is sent to investigate the exiled Kaiser Wilhelm II (Christopher Plummer) at his estate in the Netherlands. When Stefan arrives, he finds himself drawn to the Kaiser’s maid, Mieke (Lily James), who is hiding a secret that could prove devastating to them both. As their relationship grows, Stefan finds himself questioning his loyalty to his country and his own beliefs. As the Nazi regime’s power increases, Stefan and Mieke must make a desperate attempt to escape the Kaiser’s estate before it is too late.
