Synopsis/Plot
The Dreamers is a 2003 romantic drama directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and starring Michael Pitt, Eva Green, and Louis Garrel. Set in Paris during the 1968 student riots, the film follows three young cinephiles, Matthew, Isabelle, and Theo, as they become close friends and explore their sexuality and the politics of the time.
Matthew, an American student studying in Paris, meets Isabelle and Theo, a brother and sister, at a cinema. The siblings invite him to their family’s apartment, where the trio become close friends and begin to explore their sexuality. They create a world of their own, filled with movie marathons, debates about art and politics, and passionate games of truth or dare.
As the trio become closer, Matthew begins to fall in love with Isabelle, while Theo begins to feel jealous. The trio’s relationship is further tested when their parents go away on vacation, leaving them to their own devices. The trio’s games become increasingly daring and intense, and they find themselves in the middle of the 1968 student riots.
