Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Double”
The Double is a 2014 psychological thriller about a man named Simon James (Jesse Eisenberg) who is an introverted office worker stuck in a mundane job and a lonely life. He is overlooked by his co-workers and his boss, and is largely ignored by the world around him.
One day, a new employee joins the company, James Simon (also played by Jesse Eisenberg). This new Simon is everything that the old Simon isn’t; he’s confident, attractive, and popular. He quickly becomes the center of attention, and the old Simon is soon forgotten.
The old Simon is intrigued by the new Simon, and begins to investigate him. He discovers that the new Simon is actually a doppelganger of himself, created by a mysterious man known as the Colonel. The Colonel has created this doppelganger in order to disrupt Simon’s life and take over his identity.
The old Simon must find a way to stop the doppelganger before he can take over his life. He must confront his own fears and insecurities, as well as the Colonel, in order to save himself and his identity.
The Double is a gripping psychological thriller with a unique twist. It explores identity and the power of perception, and ultimately asks the question: who are we when we are not ourselves?
