Synopsis/Plot
The Disaster Artist is a 2017 American biographical comedy-drama film directed and produced by James Franco, based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s non-fiction book of the same name. It follows the making of the 2003 cult film The Room, written, directed, and produced by Tommy Wiseau. The Disaster Artist stars James Franco as Wiseau, Dave Franco as Sestero, and a supporting cast featuring Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson, and Jacki Weaver.
The film follows the story of Greg Sestero, an aspiring actor who meets the mysterious and eccentric Tommy Wiseau in an acting class. Greg is impressed by Tommy’s fearlessness and they become friends. After struggling to find acting jobs in Los Angeles, the two decide to make their own movie. With Tommy financing the film, they begin production on The Room, which quickly becomes a cult classic.
