Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Desperate Hours”
The Desperate Hours is a 1955 American film noir directed by William Wyler. The film stars Humphrey Bogart, Fredric March, and Arthur Kennedy.
The film follows the story of three escaped convicts, Ralph (Bogart), Dan (March), and Miguel (Kennedy), who take refuge in the suburban home of the Hilliard family. The Hilliards are two parents, Joseph (Joseph Wiseman) and Helen (Martha Scott), and their two children, David (Richard Eyer) and Meg (Dorothy McGuire).
The criminals take the family hostage and force them to submit to their demands. Joseph is forced to withdraw money from the bank, while Helen is terrorized and threatened. Meanwhile, the children must find a way to escape the criminals and find help.
The criminals’ stay in the Hilliard’s home is made all the more tense by the arrival of a police officer, Lt. Bowers (Robert Middleton). He suspects that something is amiss and begins to investigate.
The criminals become increasingly desperate and violent as they attempt to keep control of the Hilliard family. In a desperate attempt to keep their captors at bay, the Hilliards must use all their ingenuity to outwit them.
The film culminates in a thrilling climax as the criminals are finally brought to justice. The Desperate Hours is an intense and suspenseful film that will keep you on the edge
