Synopsis/Plot
The Descendants is a 2011 American drama film written and directed by Alexander Payne and based on the novel of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The film stars George Clooney as Matt King, a HawaiÊ»i-based lawyer and land baron, who is forced to re-examine his life and re-evaluate his family’s future after his wife’s tragic accident.
The film follows Matt as he attempts to reconnect with his two daughters while dealing with a family crisis. He is forced to confront his own sense of grief, guilt, and responsibility, as he struggles to make decisions that will affect the lives of his daughters and the future of his family’s land holdings.
