Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Defiant Ones”
The Defiant Ones is a 1958 American drama film which tells the story of two escaped prisoners, one white and one black, who are chained together and who must rely on each other in order to survive.
The movie begins with two escaped convicts, John “Joker” Jackson (Tony Curtis) and Noah Cullen (Sidney Poitier), running away from a chain gang in the deep south. They are both chained together by the wrists, and must rely on each other in order to make it out alive. As they make their way through the wilderness, they are pursued by a relentless posse of lawmen.
During their journey, the two men develop a strong bond of friendship and respect as they rely on each other for survival. They come across a number of obstacles which they must overcome in order to make it to freedom, including a raging river, a raging forest fire, and a pack of hungry wolves. Along the way, they also come across a number of characters who help them on their journey, including a kind-hearted old man, a young boy, and a young girl.
Eventually, the two men make it to freedom, but their newfound freedom is short-lived. They are soon recaptured by the posse and are brought back to the chain gang. However, the friendship and bond that the two men developed during their journey is strong enough to withstand the harsh conditions of the chain gang. In the end, the two
