Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Deep End of the Ocean”

The Deep End of the Ocean is a 1999 American drama film directed by Ulu Grosbard, based on the novel of the same name by Jacquelyn Mitchard. The film stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Treat Williams, Jonathan Jackson, Ryan Merriman, and Whoopi Goldberg.

The film follows the story of the Cappadora family, which consists of Beth (Michelle Pfeiffer), Pat (Treat Williams), Ben (Jonathan Jackson), Vincent (Ryan Merriman), and Sam (Whoopi Goldberg). The family is attending a reunion in a hotel when three-year-old Ben disappears without a trace. The family is left devastated and unable to cope with the loss. Nine years later, a young woman named Allison (Alexandra Powers) turns up on their doorstep claiming to be Ben. The family is ecstatic but is also filled with suspicion and doubt.

Beth is determined to find the truth and embarks on a journey to uncover the mystery of Ben’s disappearance. She discovers that Allison is actually Ben’s biological sister who was kidnapped at the same time as him. She also discovers that the kidnapper, a woman named Abigail, had been keeping them in a remote cabin in the woods. With Abigail in custody, the Cappadora family is reunited and they must learn to cope with the past and move forward with their lives.
