Synopsis/Plot
The Day of the Jackal is a 1973 British-French political thriller film directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Edward Fox and Michael Lonsdale. The film is based on the 1971 novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth and tells the story of a professional assassin known only as “The Jackal” who is hired to kill Charles de Gaulle, the President of France.
The story follows the Jackal as he meticulously plans and executes his mission. The Jackal is a master of disguise, able to blend in to any situation and remain undetected. He travels to Paris and begins to acquire the necessary materials for his mission and sets up a base of operations in a hotel. As he prepares for the assassination, the French government becomes aware of the plot and sets out to find the Jackal before it is too late.
The film follows the Jackal as he outwits the police and evades capture. He uses his various aliases and disguises to stay one step ahead of the authorities and make his way to the target. Along the way, he meets a young woman who helps him in his mission and becomes his unlikely ally.
