Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Curse of the Werewolf”
The Curse of the Werewolf is a 1961 British horror film directed by Terence Fisher and starring Oliver Reed. It is based on the novel of the same name by Guy Endore.
The story is set in 18th century Spain and follows Leon Corledo, a young man born to a mute beggar and a mysterious noblewoman. Leon grows up in a cruel orphanage, and on his 18th birthday, he is sent to work as a servant for the wealthy Don Alfredo Corledo.
One night, Leon meets a beautiful gypsy girl named Christina and falls in love with her. But unbeknownst to him, she is a werewolf, cursed to transform on the night of the full moon.
When Don Alfredo discovers Leon’s relationship with Christina, he orders his men to kill her. But before they can do so, she bites Leon, thus passing the curse of the werewolf onto him.
Now, Leon has to fight against his own inner beast and the superstitious locals who believe he is cursed. With the help of his friend, Dr. Hirsch, Leon discovers the truth behind his curse and sets out to find a cure.
