Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Court Jester”
The Court Jester is a 1955 musical comedy starring Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, and Angela Lansbury. The movie tells the story of a hapless jester named Hubert Hawkins (Danny Kaye) who is hired by a band of rebels to impersonate the rightful King of England and lead a revolt against the evil King Roderick (Basil Rathbone).
Hubert soon finds himself in over his head as he is forced to face off against the formidable King Roderick, who is determined to keep his throne. Hubert must rely on the help of a mysterious gypsy woman (Glynis Johns) to teach him the skills he needs to succeed. Along the way, Hubert meets a beautiful princess (Angela Lansbury) and falls in love with her.
As Hubert and the rebels prepare for battle against King Roderick, they must also face off against the King’s deadly henchman, The Black Fox (Cecil Parker). The Black Fox is a master swordsman, and Hubert must use all of his wit and skill to defeat him.
In the end, Hubert and the rebels succeed in their mission and Hubert is crowned King of England. The movie ends with Hubert and the princess happily reunited and a celebration of their victory.
