Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Confirmation”
The Confirmation is a 2016 comedy-drama film directed by Bob Nelson and starring Clive Owen, Maria Bello, Jaeden Lieberher, Patton Oswalt, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Forster, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Matthew Modine.
The film follows 8-year-old Anthony (Jaeden Lieberher) and his single father, Walt (Clive Owen). Walt is a down-on-his-luck carpenter who is struggling to make ends meet and is raising Anthony alone after his wife left them. Walt is a recovering alcoholic and is trying to stay sober.
When Walt’s estranged father, Otto (Robert Forster), offers to look after Anthony for the weekend, Walt reluctantly agrees. With the extra time on his hands, Walt takes a job from a shady character (Stephen Tobolowsky) to fix a vintage car.
Meanwhile, Anthony and Otto bond over the weekend. Otto teaches Anthony about faith and the importance of having a moral compass, while Anthony helps Otto reconnect with his faith.
When Walt returns to pick up Anthony, he discovers that Otto has taken off with the vintage car and the money that was supposed to pay for it. Walt and Anthony then set out to find Otto and the car. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a mysterious woman (Maria Bello) and a biker gang.
