Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Collector”
The Collector is a 1965 British psychological thriller-drama film directed by William Wyler and starring Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar.
The film follows the story of Freddie Clegg (Stamp), a shy and lonely bank clerk who has become obsessed with Miranda Grey (Eggar), a beautiful art student. In order to be with her, he decides to kidnap her and keep her captive in his house.
The film opens with Freddie stalking Miranda and learning more about her. He eventually decides to kidnap her one night and takes her to his house in the countryside. At first, Miranda is terrified of her captor, but Freddie is surprisingly gentle and kind to her. He explains to her that he only wants to keep her safe and that he will never harm her.
As time passes, Miranda begins to adjust to her new life with Freddie. He takes her on drives and shows her the beauty of the countryside. He also teaches her the basics of gardening and cooking. Despite the strange circumstances, Miranda finds herself strangely drawn to Freddie.
Meanwhile, the police are searching for Miranda and her kidnapper. They eventually narrow down their search to Freddie’s house, but when they arrive, they find that Freddie has been killed in an accident while trying to protect Miranda from a group of angry villagers.
