Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Childhood of a Leader”
The Childhood of a Leader is a psychological drama that follows the life of a young boy, Prescott, growing up in the tumultuous period of post-World War I Europe. His father, an American diplomat, is assigned to a peace conference in Paris, and Prescott is left to be raised by his mother and her French maid.
The film follows Prescott as he slowly begins to develop a sense of power and control over the people around him, while at the same time struggling with his own inner demons. Prescott is a precocious child who is constantly testing the boundaries of his authority, and often lashes out in anger when those boundaries are crossed.
At the same time, Europe is in the midst of a political upheaval, with the rise of fascism and the looming threat of a new world war. Prescott’s father is deeply involved in the negotiations, and Prescott is exposed to the political and social tensions of the time.
As Prescott grows older, his behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent, and his parents struggle to cope with his outbursts. Meanwhile, Europe is on the brink of disaster, and the peace conference is in danger of failing.
As the film progresses, it becomes clear that Prescott’s behavior is a reflection of the political and social turmoil of the time, and that his actions are a direct result of the upheaval of his childhood.
