Synopsis/Plot
The Butler is a powerful and inspiring drama based on the true story of Eugene Allen, a butler who served eight presidents in the White House over the course of three decades. Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) is a devoted husband and father, and a butler whose career in the White House begins in 1952. As the civil rights movement gains momentum, Cecil must reconcile his professional duties with his personal beliefs, while witnessing the tumultuous political landscape of the 20th century, from the Vietnam War to the Watergate scandal.
Throughout his journey, Cecil is supported by his devoted wife Gloria (Oprah Winfrey), and their two sons, Louis (David Oyelowo) and Charlie (Elijah Kelley). Louis is determined to fight for the civil rights of African Americans, while Charlie chooses a more conservative path. As Cecil navigates his way through the White House, his sons are forced to make their own choices about their future.
The Butler is a powerful and thought-provoking story about the struggles of the civil rights movement, and a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. With its strong performances and gripping narrative, The Butler is a must-see film for anyone interested in the history of the United States
