Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Blood of Heroes”
The Blood of Heroes is a 1989 post-apocalyptic sports drama directed by David Webb Peoples and starring Rutger Hauer. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the film follows the journey of a rag-tag group of survivors as they attempt to make a living playing the ancient game of “Savage.”
The film opens with a group of nomads led by the enigmatic Salander (Rutger Hauer) wandering the barren wasteland of the future. As they search for food and shelter, they come across an abandoned city, where they discover an old stadium. Inside, they find an ancient game being played by two teams of four players. Salander is immediately intrigued and begins to learn the game.
With the help of the mysterious Jojo (Joan Chen), Salander and his team begin to train and develop their skills in the game of “Savage.” As they progress, they attract the attention of a powerful local warlord, who sees the potential for profit in the game. He offers them a deal: if they can win a tournament, he will provide them with food, shelter, and protection.
Salander and his team accept the challenge and begin to train for the tournament. As they prepare, they come to understand the true nature of the game and the ancient code of honor that governs it. Meanwhile, they must also contend with the warlord’s henchmen, who are determined to stop them from winning.
