Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Black Stallion”
The Black Stallion is a 1979 American adventure drama film directed by Carroll Ballard and written by Melissa Mathison. The film tells the story of Alec Ramsey, a young boy who is shipwrecked on a deserted island with a wild horse he names The Black. After being rescued, Alec and The Black are taken to the United States, where they become a sensation in the world of horse racing.
The film begins with a young Alec Ramsey (Kelly Reno) and his father (Hoyt Axton) sailing on a yacht off the coast of North Africa. During a storm, their yacht is struck by lightning and capsizes, leaving Alec and his father stranded on a deserted island. Alec soon discovers a wild black Arabian stallion on the island, and befriends him. Alec names him The Black, and the two form a bond.
After some time, a passing ship rescues Alec and The Black and takes them to the United States. There, Alec and The Black become a sensation in the world of horse racing. Alec’s father, a horse trainer, takes them to his farm, and begins to train The Black for a big race.
However, Alec’s father is not the only one who is interested in The Black. A wealthy businessman, Henry Dailey (Mickey Rooney), also takes an interest in the horse and offers to buy him. Alec is initially reluctant to sell, but eventually agrees when he realizes that the money will help his family
