Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Big Year”
The Big Year is a 2011 comedy-drama film directed by David Frankel, and starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson. The film follows three men, Brad Harris (Steve Martin), Kenny Bostick (Jack Black) and Stu Preissler (Owen Wilson), who each have a passion for bird watching.
The three men have been competing against each other in a “big year” competition, a yearly event where bird watchers compete to see who can spot the most species of birds in North America. Brad is a successful businessman who is trying to reconnect with nature, Kenny is an obsessive bird watcher who will do anything to win, and Stu is a retired executive who is looking for a way to fill his newfound free time.
The competition heats up as the men travel all over North America in search of rare birds. Along the way, the men face obstacles such as bad weather, dangerous terrain, and even poachers. They also learn valuable lessons about friendship, family, and the importance of living life to the fullest.
