Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Bellboy”
The Bellboy is a 1960 comedy film starring and directed by Jerry Lewis. It follows Stanley, a bellboy at the luxurious Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. Stanley is a clumsy, bumbling character who is constantly getting into trouble with the hotel guests and staff.
The film begins with Stanley trying to help a hotel guest, Mr. Robinson, with his luggage, only to end up sending it down the wrong chute. This leads to a series of misadventures for Stanley, as he continues to get into scrapes with the hotel guests and staff.
Stanley’s biggest challenge comes when he is assigned to look after a famous movie star, Suzanne Dalbert. Stanley is starstruck and desperate to make a good impression on her, but his clumsiness and lack of social skills get in the way. He also has to deal with the advances of the hotel’s flirtatious maid, and the demands of the hotel’s demanding manager.
The movie culminates with Stanley finally getting the chance to prove himself when he is tasked with delivering an important package to the hotel’s penthouse. His efforts are rewarded when Suzanne finally notices him and invites him to dinner.
