Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Asphalt Jungle”
The Asphalt Jungle is a 1950 crime film directed by John Huston and starring Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, and Marilyn Monroe.
The film follows a group of criminals led by the mastermind Doc Riedenschneider (Calhern), who are planning a major heist in a small midwestern city. Doc assembles a crack team of criminals including the safecracker Louis Ciavelli (Hayden), the getaway driver Dix Handley (Sam Jaffe), the explosives expert Gus Minissi (James Whitmore), and the corrupt lawyer Alonzo Emmerich (John McIntire).
The plan is to break into a jewelry store and steal the contents, but the heist goes wrong when Dix is shot by a security guard and the group has to flee. As the police investigate the crime, the criminals realize that they are being double-crossed by Emmerich, who is trying to keep the loot for himself.
Meanwhile, the police are hot on their trail and the criminals must find a way to escape with the loot before they are captured.
The film follows the criminals as they are pursued by the police and attempt to evade capture while still managing to keep the loot. Along the way, they must face their own personal demons and make difficult choices in order to survive.
