Synopsis/Plot
The Apartment is a 1960 American romantic comedy-drama film directed and produced by Billy Wilder from a screenplay he co-wrote with I.A.L. Diamond, starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray.
The film follows C.C. Baxter (Lemmon), an insurance clerk who lets his apartment out to his superiors for their extramarital affairs, hoping to gain their favor and advance his career. Baxter soon finds himself in a love triangle between two of his superiors, Fran Kubelik (MacLaine) and Jeff D. Sheldrake (MacMurray).
The Apartment is a story about the struggles of modern life, and how people can get lost in the rat race of corporate America. It deals with themes of loneliness, ambition, and morality, and showcases the power of love to overcome these obstacles. The film is a humorous yet poignant look at how people can sometimes use each other in a desperate attempt to find happiness.
