Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Angel”
The Angel is a 2018 action-thriller directed by Ariel Vromen and starring Marwan Kenzari, Toby Kebbell, and Hannah Ware.
The movie follows Ashraf Marwan (Marwan Kenzari), an Egyptian businessman and son-in-law of President Nasser, who is recruited by Israeli Mossad agents to spy on his own country in the early 1970s. Ashraf is soon torn between his loyalty to his country and his loyalty to his new friends.
The story opens in the present day, as Ashraf is found dead at the bottom of his London apartment building. His death is quickly ruled a suicide, but the investigation into his life reveals a much larger story.
Flashbacks to the 1970s show Ashraf’s recruitment by the Mossad, and his subsequent decision to become a double agent. He is trained in the art of espionage and soon finds himself in a precarious position, as he must balance his loyalty to his country and his loyalty to his new friends.
As the stakes become higher and higher, Ashraf is forced to make a difficult decision that will have far-reaching consequences. He must choose between his country and his conscience, and the consequences of his choice will reverberate for years to come.
