The Amy Fisher Story is a 1993 biopic based on the true story of Amy Fisher, an American woman who became known as the “Long Island Lolita” after she was convicted of the 1992 attempted murder of Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of her lover Joey Buttafuoco. The film follows Amy from her teenage years to her first meeting with Joey, to her eventual arrest and trial.
The movie begins with a teenage Amy Fisher, living in a dysfunctional family on Long Island. She meets Joey Buttafuoco, a married man nearly twice her age, and the two embark on a passionate affair. As their relationship progresses, Amy becomes increasingly jealous of Mary Jo, Joey’s wife, and begins to plot her murder.
The movie follows Amy as she attempts to carry out her plan, and the consequences that follow. After shooting Mary Jo in the face, Amy is arrested and charged with attempted murder. She is tried and sentenced to seven years in prison, becoming a national sensation in the process.
The film follows Amy in prison, where she struggles to come to terms with her crime and the public’s perception of her. She eventually finds solace in a prison ministry, and comes to terms with her actions. After her release from prison, Amy is able to rebuild her life and move forward.
