Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Air Up There”
The Air Up There is a 1994 American sports comedy film directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starring Kevin Bacon as Jimmy Dolan, a college basketball coach who travels to Africa in search of a basketball prodigy.
The film begins with Jimmy Dolan, a college basketball coach, being fired from his job due to his team’s poor performance. Desperate to save his career, Jimmy travels to Africa in search of a basketball prodigy. After arriving, he meets Saleh, a young man from a remote village who has an incredible talent for the game.
Saleh’s father, Chief Natchaba, is skeptical of Jimmy’s intentions and refuses to let his son leave the village. Undeterred, Jimmy decides to stay in the village and teach the locals the game of basketball. He eventually wins over the Chief and earns the right to take Saleh back to America with him.
Back in the United States, Jimmy enrolls Saleh in college and helps him adjust to his new life. Saleh’s incredible talent for the game quickly catches the attention of the college basketball scouts and he is soon recruited to play for a top team.
Meanwhile, Jimmy’s team begins to turn their fortunes around and they start winning games. However, when Saleh’s team reaches the championship game, Jimmy is forced to make a difficult decision between his loyalty to his team and his loyalty to his protégé.
