Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Acid House”
The Acid House is a 1998 British black comedy-drama film directed by Paul McGuigan. The film is based on three short stories written by Irvine Welsh, the author of Trainspotting.
The film follows the lives of three working-class Scotsmen living in the same housing estate in Leith, Edinburgh. The three stories are interconnected and feature different characters, but the same themes of fate, chance, and luck.
The first story, “The Granton Star Cause,” follows Boab (Kevin McKidd), a young man whose life is changed when he is struck by a bolt of lightning. After the incident, Boab finds himself with supernatural powers, which he uses to get revenge on those who have wronged him.
The second story, “A Soft Touch,” follows Coco Bryce (Stephen McCole), a young man who is trying to escape his past and make a better life for himself. He falls in love with a woman named Alison (Michelle Gomez), but their relationship is complicated when Coco’s past catches up with him.
The third story, “The Acid House,” follows Johnny (Ewen Bremner), a young man who is desperate to escape his life of poverty. He falls in with a group of violent thugs and gets caught up in a world of drugs and violence.
