Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Abominable Dr. Phibes”
The Abominable Dr. Phibes is a 1971 British horror film starring Vincent Price as the eponymous Dr. Anton Phibes, a brilliant but deranged doctor who has been horribly disfigured in a car accident. After being presumed dead, Phibes begins a quest for revenge against the nine medical professionals he holds responsible for his wife’s death.
The film begins with a prologue detailing Phibes’ descent into madness. After the accident, Phibes is found barely alive and taken to a hospital. After being declared dead, Phibes escapes and begins his revenge mission.
The first victim is Dr. Vesalius, who is killed in a gruesome fashion by a giant statue of a bee. The police are baffled by the bizarre murder and are unable to find any clues.
The next victim is Dr. Hargreaves, who is killed by a giant metal snake. Again, the police are unable to find any clues.
The third victim is Dr. Longstreet, who is killed by a giant metal bat. This time, the police are able to find a clue: a playing card bearing the image of a sphinx.
The fourth victim is Dr. Biederbeck, who is killed by a giant metal scorpion. The police are able to trace the card to a shop owned by Phibes.
