Synopsis – What to Expect from “Tequila Sunrise”
Tequila Sunrise is a 1988 romantic crime drama directed by Robert Towne and starring Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kurt Russell.
The movie follows the story of two old friends, Mac (Gibson) and Nick (Russell), who are both in love with the same woman, Jo Ann (Pfeiffer). Mac is a former drug dealer who is trying to go straight and is now a restaurateur. Nick is a police officer who is determined to take down the drug cartel that Mac used to be a part of.
The movie begins with Mac and Nick reuniting after many years apart. They catch up over drinks and the conversation quickly turns to Jo Ann, whom both men are in love with. Nick is determined to protect her from Mac’s criminal past and warns him to stay away from her.
Mac visits Jo Ann and they start to fall in love. Nick is worried and starts to investigate Mac’s past. He discovers that Mac is still connected to the drug cartel and is now working as a middleman between them and some local dealers.
Nick confronts Mac and tells him that he will have to choose between Jo Ann and the drug cartel. Mac decides to break away from the cartel and focus on his relationship with Jo Ann, but the cartel isn’t happy about it. They send their men after Mac and Jo Ann, who are forced to go on the run.
