Synopsis – What to Expect from “Team Foxcatcher”
Team Foxcatcher is a 2016 American biographical sports drama film directed by Bennett Miller and starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo. The film tells the story of John du Pont, an eccentric multi-millionaire who, in the late 1980s, established a wrestling training facility and team at his estate Foxcatcher Farm.
The film begins with John du Pont (Steve Carell) as a young man, struggling to win his mother’s approval and recognition for his accomplishments. He eventually finds his purpose in life when he decides to start a wrestling team at his estate, Foxcatcher Farm. He hires two Olympic wrestlers, Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his older brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo), to lead the team.
At first, Mark and Dave are hesitant to accept du Pont’s offer, but they eventually agree to join the team. Mark is especially eager to prove himself, as he is still haunted by his brother’s success and his own failure to win a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics.
Once the team is established, du Pont begins to show signs of mental instability and paranoia. He also begins to develop an unhealthy obsession with Mark, and his behavior grows increasingly erratic and dangerous. Despite his brother’s warnings, Mark stays on the team, hoping to prove himself to du Pont.
