Synopsis/Plot
Taps is a 1981 American drama film starring Timothy Hutton, Sean Penn, George C. Scott, Ronny Cox, Tom Cruise and Evan Handler. The film tells the story of a group of military school cadets who take over their school in order to save it from closing.
The film begins with a group of cadets at the fictional Bunker Hill Military Academy, led by Cadet Captain David Shawn (Hutton). When the school is threatened with closure by the government, the cadets decide to take matters into their own hands and barricade themselves inside the school.
The cadets are soon joined by the school’s Commandant, Colonel Edward Joshua (Scott), who is sympathetic to their cause but is unable to help them. The cadets also enlist the help of an old Vietnam War veteran, Captain Blythe (Cox), who is now an alcoholic.
The cadets soon face a crisis when the government sends in the National Guard to take control of the school. As tensions rise, the cadets must decide whether to surrender or to fight for what they believe in.
Taps is a powerful and thought-provoking film that examines the consequences of standing up for what you believe
