Synopsis – What to Expect from “Talk to Me”
Talk to Me is a 2007 biographical drama directed by Kasi Lemmons. The film stars Don Cheadle as Washington, D.C. radio personality Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene, Jr., Chiwetel Ejiofor as Dewey Hughes, Taraji P. Henson as Vernell Watson, Mike Epps as Milo Hughes, and Cedric the Entertainer as Slick.
The movie follows the true story of Petey Greene, a former convict who became a popular radio talk show host and community activist in Washington D.C. in the late 1960s and early 1970s. After being released from prison, Petey is hired by Dewey Hughes, the program director of a local radio station, to host a talk show. Despite his inexperience, Petey quickly becomes a hit with the listeners, using his streetwise humor and frank opinions to talk about race relations and social issues.
As Petey’s popularity grows, he begins to take his activism to a new level, organizing protests and demonstrations to help the African-American community in Washington D.C. Despite his success, Petey’s life is still filled with personal struggles, including his strained relationship with his ex-wife Vernell and his battle with alcoholism.
As Petey continues to fight for social justice, he must also confront the demons of his past and find a way to make peace with his own life. With the help of his friends
