Synopsis – What to Expect from “Take Shelter”
Take Shelter is a psychological drama film released in 2011, written and directed by Jeff Nichols. The movie follows Curtis LaForche (Michael Shannon), a father and husband living in a small Ohio town.
Curtis is a construction worker who has been having strange and vivid nightmares. In his dreams, he witnesses a devastating storm that brings with it a deluge of hail, rain and birds in a terrifying manner. He is also plagued by visions of a mysterious figure that seems to be stalking him.
Concerned by his nightmares, Curtis begins to take precautions to protect himself and his family from the storm he fears is coming. He begins to build a storm shelter in his backyard, and starts stockpiling supplies in case of an emergency.
At the same time, Curtis’s behavior begins to change. He becomes increasingly paranoid and withdrawn, alienating his wife Samantha (Jessica Chastain) and his daughter Hannah (Tova Stewart). He also begins to withdraw from his job, causing friction with his boss.
As Curtis’s behavior continues to become more erratic, Samantha and his friends start to worry about his mental health and fear he may be suffering from a mental breakdown. They urge him to seek help, but Curtis refuses, convinced that his visions are a warning of something that is yet to come.
As the storm of Curtis’s nightmares approaches, he must make a decision – to take shelter and protect his family,
