Synopsis – What to Expect from “Swing Vote”
Swing Vote is a 2008 comedy-drama film starring Kevin Costner and Paula Patton. It follows the story of Bud Johnson, a single father and apathetic voter living in a small New Mexico town.
When Bud’s daughter Molly (Patton) realizes that her father has forgotten to cast his vote in the upcoming presidential election, she takes matters into her own hands and casts his vote for him. Unbeknownst to them, the election comes down to a single vote and Bud’s vote is the deciding one.
Suddenly, Bud finds himself thrust into the national spotlight as the nation’s most important voter. The two major presidential candidates, Andrew Boone (Kelsey Grammer) and Donald Greenleaf (Dennis Hopper), make a last-minute campaign swing through Bud’s small town in an attempt to win his vote.
As the candidates vie for Bud’s vote, Molly and Bud’s friends and neighbors rally around him, helping him to understand the issues and encouraging him to make an informed decision. Through this process, Bud discovers his own inner strength and realizes that he has the power to make a difference.
In the end, Bud casts his vote and the results are revealed. The film ends with Bud and Molly standing together as they watch the election results and realize that the power of one vote can truly be a force for change.
