Synopsis/Plot
Swimming Pool is a 2003 French-British psychological thriller directed by François Ozon. The film follows Sarah Morton (Charlotte Rampling), a successful British mystery author who is suffering from writer’s block. In an effort to relax and rejuvenate, Sarah takes a break from London and travels to the French countryside to stay at her publisher’s summer home.
Upon her arrival, Sarah discovers that her publisher has allowed a young French woman named Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) to stay in the house as well. Initially, Sarah is put off by Julie’s presence, but the two eventually develop a close friendship. As the days pass, Sarah begins to observe Julie’s promiscuous behavior and her growing obsession with a local man.
As their friendship deepens, Sarah finds herself inspired to write again, and begins to draw on her own experiences as well as Julie’s to create a new novel. However, as Sarah’s writing progresses, she discovers a shocking secret about Julie that could have deadly consequences.
