Synopsis/Plot
Superman: Red Son is a 2020 direct-to-video animated superhero film based on the 2003 comic book limited series of the same name written by Mark Millar. The film follows an alternate version of Superman, who was raised in the Soviet Union instead of the United States, and his struggle to protect his adopted nation and the world from the machinations of Lex Luthor and Brainiac.
The story begins in the 1950s, when a meteor carrying a baby Kryptonian crashes in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas. The child is adopted by the government and grows up to become the Soviet Union’s greatest champion – Superman. In this alternate timeline, Superman’s heroic deeds are used to further the cause of Communism and the Soviet Union.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor discovers a way to travel through time and attempts to alter history in order to make the United States the world’s dominant superpower. He also allies himself with Brainiac, an alien supercomputer, in order to achieve his goal. Superman must now face off against these two powerful forces, while also dealing with the fact that he is now a symbol of a system he does not necessarily agree with.
Throughout the film, Superman is forced to make difficult decisions as he struggles
