Synopsis – What to Expect from “Submergence”
Submergence is a 2017 romantic drama film directed by Wim Wenders and starring Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy.
The story follows a couple, James More (James McAvoy) and Danielle Flinders (Alicia Vikander), who are deeply in love. James is a British spy and Danielle is an oceanographer. When James is sent to a mission in Somalia, they are forced to separate and remain apart for months.
In Somalia, James is captured and held hostage by a group of terrorists. As he awaits his fate, he reflects on his life and his relationship with Danielle. Meanwhile, Danielle is in a submersible researching the ocean depths.
As the two of them are isolated from each other, they both find solace in their memories of their time together. They both struggle to survive and to keep their love alive despite the physical separation.
The film follows the couple’s story as they try to reunite and the obstacles they face along the way. It is a story of love, hope, and survival. Ultimately, it is a story of two people who are determined to find each other despite the odds.
